A wicket is the individual hinged pane within a window screen that flips up or pushes out, giving you access to the window crank or latch without removing the entire screen. Wicket screens are essential for casement windows, awning windows, and any window with hardware that needs to be reached from the interior.
The key difference from a standard flat screen is the 3/4" stand-off frame. This creates clearance between the screen and the window so the crank handle or push-out arm can operate freely without hitting the screen mesh.
Types We Install
Push-Out Wickets
Hinged panels that push outward for window access. Most common on casement windows.
Crank-Out Lip/Flange
Specialized screens with lip frames that snap or clip into the window frame around crank-out hardware.
Skylight Wickets
Custom wicket screens for skylight windows — hinged to allow ventilation control.
The 3/4" Stand-Off Frame
Standard flat screens sit flush against the window frame. Wicket screens need extra depth — the 3/4" stand-off frame creates clearance so the window crank or push-out arm can operate without pressing against the mesh. Without this stand-off, the screen mesh gets pushed into the hardware, causing tears and premature failure.
